We pay respect to the Bidjara people and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on whose land we live and work for their resilience, determination, cultural knowledge and wisdom. We reflect on the past and look to the future with hope for harmony and health equity.
Acacia, our native plant, is resilient and versatile, adapted to harsh conditions, much like rural communities. Our service is a new business that has grown out of this community that will have the resilience to thrive here.
Connection is key to the health of individuals and communities. We want to provide best practice health care as well as improve access through connections to all health services.
With more than 25 years combined experience in health and a passion for rural health Dr Paul Chang and Dr Katie Chang are excited to be able to open Acacia Country Practice for Charleville & community. We moved to Charleville 6 years ago and love to call this country home!
I’ve been a GP for more than 10 yrs, and a doctor for more than 15, working in rural Queensland and the Northern Territory.
I grew up on a cattle property on Geynyon Country, south of Warwick on the Darling Downs & studied in Brisbane at the University of Queensland for undergraduate then medical degrees. As well as GP training I completed training in anaesthetics & palliative care.
I am passionate about improving access and quality service to rural Australians. I love primary care because I see people from all ages & all walks of life and I love to help them feel better and stay well.
We love the red dirt, big sky country here in Bidjara lands & the amazing people who call this home!
I came to Australia after I completed a master’s degree in science, in cancer research. I worked for Melbourne University, Cancer Council and Queensland Institute of medical research.
I became a doctor after graduating from Griffith University Medical School in 2011. I have worked in rural Queensland & NT
I am a GP and a Fellow of Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, with Advanced Skill Training in Emergency Medicine. I am passionate about providing high quality, continuity of health care in rural Australia.
I’m also passionate about medical education.
We’ve been working in Charleville for 6 years. We look forward to providing high quality health care and contribute building a strong healthy community in Charleville.
I am a proud Charlevillian, and I’m pretty sure I can claim “local” status, given I was born and raised here!
I underwent primary education at our local primary school, St Mary’s and underwent my secondary education in Toowoomba. My mother, Jackie Toms, is a RN and midwife who worked for Dr Lou Ariotti and Dr Chester Wilson at their surgery for many years, so I guess I was destined to follow in her footsteps.
I started my nursing career as an Enrolled Nurse in 1995, and I then went on to complete a Bachelor of Nursing, Graduate Diploma of Midwifery and a Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner). I met my husband Marc while visiting home one weekend in 2002 and moved back home in 2003. In 2005 we were married and in 2007, 2009 and 2011 we welcomed our 3 sons, the last two being third generation to be born at Charleville Hospital.
I have worked in many roles in my nursing career, but none as rewarding as my role as a Nurse Practitioner. I am acutely aware of the importance of continuity, consistency and trust in the patient/health practitioner relationship, and it is something that I pride myself on. I plan and deliver care to patients across the health continuum, encompassing primary prevention, health promotion, acute care, and chronic disease management. I am particularly passionate about ensuring we take care of our ageing population, and that our “oldies” are given the opportunity to continue to live vitally and safely within their own homes. This is all achieved through working closely with a team of equally dedicated health professionals, both within the government and non-government sectors.
I am incredibly excited to be joining Paul, Katie, Lauren and the team at ACP as I know they share my passion for rural healthcare and improving the lives of everyone in their community.
I am a Charleville local! This is my home and my community which I am very passionate about. I always knew I wanted a job in health during school as I love helping and chatting to people.
I completed a trainee ship in my senior years at school to become a Dental Assistant, this is where my passion become alive. I then switched to medical reception working in multiple locations and roles and completed a Certificate IV in Medical Practice Assisting.
I have strong attention to detail and great organisational skills so stepping into practice management is a natural progression and exciting challenge!
I am the
friendly voice that you will hear when you call the clinic and the friendly
face when you walk in. I am so excited to be part of the ACP team and
look forward what’s to come.
I am ACP Medical Receptionist, I am also a Charleville local, this is my home and community. I have lived on properties all my life up until recently with my family so understand the importance of rural and remote health care.
I graduated High School in 2021 and studied Vet Nursing in my senior years. I then worked as a property manager in real estate for 2 years this is where i found my love for Administration.
I am a quick learner and not afraid to make mistakes and seek help. I am looking forward to working at Acacia Country Practice and cant wait to gain knowledge and guidance from the ACP team.
I’m proud to call Charleville home – my roots are firmly embedded locally, being born here.
I’ve been employed in the health field my entire career, spanning from my first role as a pharmacy assistant and have been a medical administrator and practice manager in clinics ranging from dental, ophthalmology, gynaecology, vascular, podiatry, fertility and cosmetic injectables. I have a Bachelor of Health Science (Public Health), Graduate Certificate in Sexual Health and truly believe we should never stop learning in life. I have a passion for exceptional customer-focused care and service and believe positivity, empathy and compassion plays an important role in making a difference in the lives of others.
I have my own business as a Marriage Celebrant which I run between my role as Diversional Therapist at Waroona Aged Care Facility. In the main tourist season I also am a conservation educator, running tours with Murweh Shire Council Visitor Information Centre and Save The Bilby Fund for our famous Charleville Bilbies!
I am so excited to now be part of the vibrant and passionate team at Acacia Country Practice, bringing my diverse healthcare experience to help out in any administrative capacity that I can, as our wonderful doctors continue to provide exceptional primary healthcare to our rural community.
Hi, I’m Tessa, Senior Medical Receptionist at Acacia Country Practice.
When you walk through our doors, chances are I’ll be the first person you meet — greeting you with a warm smile, a bubbly personality, and maybe even a story about my two cheeky ginger cats. I love brewing a mean coffee and keeping our front desk organised, and I hope I can be a supportive presence for both our patients and my colleagues.
My life journey has taken me far and wide — living in communities as diverse as Biloela, Mt Isa, North Stradbroke Island, rural Tasmania, and larger centres like Brisbane, Hobart, and even Abu Dhabi. These experiences have taught me adaptability, understanding, and how to connect with people from all walks of life.
But no matter where I’ve lived, Charleville has always held a special place in my heart. My family has been part of this community for over 60 years, and in January 2025 I returned to the home my great-grandfather built — a place filled with many childhood holiday memories.
Now, I’m proud to call Charleville home again and to be part of the ACP team. Whether I’m greeting patients, lending a listening ear, or keeping everything running smoothly, I aim to make every visit to our clinic feel welcoming and genuine.
Originally from Victoria, I moved to Charleville at the age of five, where I’ve grown up surrounded by the strong sense of community that defines this town — especially on my mum’s side of the family. After graduating high school, I enrolled at the University of Southern Queensland, where I’m currently in my second year of a Bachelor of Nursing, working toward becoming a registered nurse.
I began my professional journey after completing my first year of university, starting as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN) at Waroona Aged Care Facility. I’ve since joined ACP, where I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside and learn from some truly inspiring clinicians. Although I’m still new to the nursing profession, my long-term goal is to further my studies and eventually become a doctor — with a particular passion for paediatrics in rural healthcare.
Outside of work and study, I enjoy a wide range of hobbies — from sports and travelling to enjoying a good coffee (and maybe confessing my love to an NRL player or two!). I’m also a proud and vocal supporter of the Melbourne Storm. I’ve always been very connected to Charleville, having attended both primary and high school here, and was honoured to serve as School Captain at both. My time at The Glennie School in Years 10 and 11, particularly during a medical camp, solidified my passion for the medical field.
My mission is simple but deeply personal: to give back to the community that raised me. I truly believe in the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and Charleville has been that village for me. One day, I hope to specialise in paediatric medicine and help provide accessible healthcare for sick children and their families in rural communities — ensuring they don’t have to travel hundreds of kilometers just to receive care.
I’ve called Charleville home since moving here for high school in 1982, and I’m proud to now be a true local. Nursing has been my dream since primary school, and I began my career as an Enrolled Nurse at Charleville Hospital in 1990 — where I still work today.
I’m passionate, energetic, and dedicated to my work, and I believe in treating patients with the same compassion and care I would want for myself. Beyond work, I’m a fiercely loyal friend, a loving mum to three sons, and I enjoy keeping my home neat as a pin and spending time in my garden.
I’ve also been actively involved with the Hospital Auxiliary for more than 10 years, serving in various roles including Treasurer and now proudly as President, supporting the hospital and community through my leadership.
Having previously worked in primary healthcare at Mulga Medics, I’m now excited to join Acacia Country Practice as a Practice Nurse, bringing my energy, dedication, and community spirit to care for our patients.
